Welcome to Nourishing A.Rose! Thank you for taking the time to visit my blog. I'm Ashley, an aspiring registered dietitian (RD), as well as Gina's daughter (co-owner of Spice It Up).
My Background: I received my Bachelor of Science in International Business and Finance from Philadelphia University in 2009 and began working in management. After 2 years, I realized that I was unhappy, experiencing daily migraines, and was not passionate about my position or the field I was in. After doing a little soul searching, I realized how much I loved nutrition. I watched nutrition documentaries, read current research and nutrition blogs; I wanted to learn as much as I can about it. I decided to quit my job and go back to school to get a Master of Science in Nutrition from Drexel University. I worked part-time in nutrition education programs, interning for a RD in private practice, and volunteering in various nutrition settings to gain as much experience as possible (dietetic internships are incredibly competitive). I was eventually offered a teaching assistant position with the Department of Nutrition at Drexel University and from there realized that what I really wanted to teach nutrition at the collegiate level, as well as offer nutrition counseling. I was accepted into Sodexo- Allentown's Dietetic Internship Program, starting September 2015. Once I complete the internship, I can then sit for the RD exam.
My Philosophy: I believe that what we eat can have a positive influence on our lives. My dietary lifestyle is comprised of eating fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean protein, and dairy. That's not to say I don't enjoy frozen yogurt, sweets, bacon, wine, and french fries on occasion :) . Taking small steps can have the biggest impact, lasting a lifetime. It's all about moderation and doesn't necessarily mean you need to cut out your favorite foods. Eating healthy also doesn't mean eating foods you don't like, just because they are healthy. It can be fun and delicious!
Recipes: I include items from Spice It Up into my recipes to make nutritious and delicious meals! There will be plenty of quick recipes that are easy to make on a busy schedule. I would be happy to accommodate any requests or answer any questions regarding nutrition, diets, etc...!
